We offer a complete solution: we evaluate your company, prepare a non-conformity report and an action plan with corrective actions, assisting from the beginning until your business achieves full compliance.

What is Regulatory Standard 26 (NR26)?

NR 26 (Regulatory Standard 26) addresses safety signage in workplaces, aiming to protect the physical integrity and health of employees. It establishes the requirement to adopt clear and effective visual signs to warn about hazards and prevent accidents. The standard defines different types of signage — safety, emergency, and informational — which must be used according to the specific circumstances and risks involved, such as:

Safety signage: identifies hazards and the procedures to be followed to prevent accidents.

Emergency signage: provides guidance on evacuation routes, fire extinguishers, and other safety equipment.

Informational signage: provides additional information about processes and internal regulations.

NR 26 also provides guidelines regarding the standardization and use of colors on signs and safety markings, helping ensure clear and consistent communication regardless of workers’ educational level or language. Colors, for example, have specific meanings, such as red for emergency situations, yellow for caution, and green for safety.

It is essential to understand that non-compliance with NR 26 may result in penalties and compromise workplace safety. In addition, proper signage contributes to a safer work environment by preventing accidents, improving process efficiency, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

In summary, NR 26 requires safety signage to comply with requirements regarding color, shape, and placement, with the purpose of protecting workers and ensuring that companies operate safely and in accordance with applicable legislation.

It is also important to emphasize that compliance with Brazilian Regulatory Standards (NRs) can contribute to meeting the requirements of international certifications, such as ISO 14001.

How is the adaptation service performed?

Step 1: After the service is contracted, our team prepares a compliance schedule covering all relevant stages required to bring your company into compliance with NR 26. We begin with an on-site assessment of the requirements established by the standard:

  • Use of safety colors in workplaces;

  • Classification of chemical products in accordance with the GHS;

  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemical products in accordance with the GHS and ABNT NBR 14725;

  • Labeling of chemical products in accordance with the GHS and ABNT NBR 14725;

  • Employee training in accordance with NR 26.

To carry out the service, technical visits are conducted to verify the items listed above, questionnaires are applied to assess risk perception and employees’ understanding of the hazards associated with chemical products, photographs of the areas are taken, and relevant information and documents are collected.

Step 2: After the technical visits have been completed, a technical report is prepared describing the assessment conducted in accordance with NR 26.

Step 3: Any non-conformities identified will be documented, and an action plan will be developed for their implementation. If requested by the company, our team can also assist with the implementation of the required measures, including:

  • Review and adequacy of safety documentation, including GHS classification, SDS, and labeling in accordance with NR 26 and ABNT NBR 14725;

  • Adequacy of safety signage, including safety colors and hazard communication established by the GHS;

  • Employee training in accordance with NR 26, covering hazard and risk awareness, safe handling of chemicals, and proper understanding of SDS and product labels.
